International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ)New Zealand Volunteer teacher in Kathmandu, Nepal

Joanne Taught "at-risk" children at an elementary school in Kathmandu, Nepal. After returning to the United States, she continued to raise funds to send to The Orchid Garden for clean water, food, learning resources, backpacks and sporting equipment for the kids. She has raised over $11,000USD and continues to stay connected with the teachers.

Local Volunteer Support

1. Joanne supports youth leadership development at New Canaan High School through her partnership with New Canaan Cares, a local non-profit, family focused organization in New Canaan.

2. Joanne and her daughter, Sophia, are active volunteers with the National Charity League chapter in New Canaan. Joanne is the lead liaison for Person 2 Person in Darien CT, a non profit that offers food essentials and clothing to families in need in the area. Joanne and Sophia actively participate in volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

3. Joanne offers coaching time to Juniors/Seniors getting ready for the college application process. Through small, interactive workshops students begin thinking about their chosen field of study, they are shown ways to write a powerful admissions essay and where needed Joanne prepares these students for admissions interviews.
